All you need is to register your domain name and have a website and you're ready to step into the world of affiliate marketing by selling someone else's products.

Whether you are setting up a business website or a website to make money online through affiliate marketing, information products or any other internet business model, there are a few crucial steps you should follow.

Nowadays, registering a domain name has become quite simple. However, there are three things that you should keep in mind.

1. Choosing a Name for Domain Registering: Choose a relevant domain name. For instance, URLs like petsmart.com, gardenguide.com or etoys.com tell you instantly what the business is about. Opt for short names that are easy to remember. You could go to sites like cheapdomainsfromscratch.com to select a domain name. If you are getting your domain based on your company name, this will obviously make it easy for you to setup personalised company emails etc. But, even if you a well established business, chances are not may people will be searching for your company name in Google or Yahoo. They may be searching for keywords like "outdoor fitness", so register a domain like "outdoorfitness.com" for example, will make it far more recognisable. This makes it easy for people to see that your website may meet their needs. Keep in mind, that you can always point a domain like this to a specific page on your company website, if you don't want multiple websites.

2. Registering a Domain Name: There are many sites, like cheapdomainsfromscratch.com, that offer very cheap domain registering services. This makes it very easy to register domains that are specific to your product or service offering. Registering a locally based website URL, like .com.au or ,co.ca could work well for you if you are a locally based business, but preferably, having a .com website will be the best option. If you are selling information products or anything that has a global audience, then certainly a .com domain will be best. Look out for the specials that are offered as part of domain purchasing, because you could also get a great deal on hosting your website.

3. Make your Domain Registering Search Friendly: Ensure that you register your domain name for at least three years, as this will add credibility to your website. The longer the duration, the more search engine friendly your website is. The longest period for domain registration is ten years. Getting registered with a reputed registrar will add to the trustworthiness of your website. Making sure that you use keywords relating to your business market or your online niche audience will also help with natural search rankings. From the example above, if you are targeting outdoor fitness training, do some keyword research using Google's keyword tool. Find the top ranking keywords in your niche and try to build website URL combinations that use these keywords. Submit these combinations into a domain search, like the one of cheapdomainsfromscratch.com. For example, outdoorfitness.com, outdoorfitnesstraining.com, outdoorfittraining.com, until you find one that is not already registered.

Once you have brought your domain name, you want to set it up to point to a set hosting, that you may already have, or you can point it to an affiliate link. Either way, if you are not sure what to do next, the support staff at the domain registrar will be able to help you point the new domain to the correct location.

SEO and Expired Domains - Partners in Progress

Expired domain name trading is not that easy as you think it to be! This is true especially when you have a domain that is not commercially feasible and viable. In general, the most common perception among people is that one buys an expired domain just to capitalize on the previous sites page rank as well as traffic.

However, this seems to be the conventional way of thinking! Times are changing and they will change in the future as well! The current buzz words are domain flipping, which means converting an expired domain into a viable entity capable of producing decent income for the owner. In general sense, an expired domain looses all its page rank and accumulated traffic, as soon as it drops and become defunct. It means that most of the expired domains in the registry are as good as dead and useless. Thus, expired domain industry is an intricate business, when you may need to try very hard to sell a pack of domain names.

You are indeed very lucky, if you are able to sell a domain name for a good asking price. However, it may not be the case every time you sell a domain name. Some of the domain names may fetch you a very small profit, while others may provide you an ample opportunity to earn lots of profit. Thus, you will need to find a suitable strategy to make your domain more viable and strong.

SEO is possibly the best known and well proven technique to assist your expired domain based web site to achieve that elusive commercial success. You will need to know the benefits and disadvantages of using this technology before choosing to apply its techniques. Major search engines never recognize expired domains and their backlinks and traffic. Thus, you may need to buy a domain before it actually expires and becomes defunct.

SEO technology works very well with your expired domains based web sites, just because you are starting afresh with new web site and a new identity. You will need to make sure that your web site is perfect with excellent content, as well as cleverly inserted Meta tags, to help your domain find its way to the top of the search pages.

On the alternative, it is still possible for you to find an expired domain name that boasts of traffic and incoming links. There are one or two minor issues here:

A) Domain flipping is a process of converting your expired domain into an entity like an active web site. If the expired domain name that you purchase does not relate to your business concept, then it may not be really wise to buy that domain, even if it has good traffic. However, you can still change and migrate over to the business concept related to the expired domain in question. Under such a scenario, you can always use the technique of SEO to make your site productive.

B) Ensure that the domain that you purchase has a clean record; some sites may have links to black hat systems and paid link web sites.

If these methods fail you, you may have to go for an expired domain that is capable of domain flipping and subsequent SEO promotion. SEO techniques ensure top placement in famous search engines, better page rank, plenty traffic and incoming links. Expired domains that are SEO enabled could bring you better income and sizeable profits.

How Do I Register a Domain Name That Brings More Website Traffic?

Before answering the question "How do I register a domain name that brings more website traffic?", you have to look closely at your product or service. You have to consider your customers and how they will search for your website. The right domain can make a difference in the amount and quality of traffic you get to your site. So, where do you start?

Brainstorm Words And Phrases

Go through your offer - be it a product, a service, a membership site, an online store - and brainstorm a list of words to describe it. What words best represent your offer? What words do you think that prospective customers would enter in the search engines to find your website, your product, your service, your store?

Create a list of short phrases. For example: If you are selling an e-book that shows people how to train their horse for dressage, some of the phrases in your list may be "horse training" or "dressage training". These words will be the basis for your site name.

Up Your Chances And Appeal

Most basic phrases will be already taken for domain names, so create a list of names by adding a modifying word, like "best" or "elite". In the case of the dressage training you could have a website like GentleDressageTraining.com or EasyDressageTraining.com. These extra words not only give you a better shot at getting a name you want, but also appeal to those searching the Internet.

When Internet searchers see these words in the URL of the search results, they are much more likely to click through to your website. The link promises them to provide the targeted information they are looking for - and it is "easy", "quick", or "premium". So, spend some time brainstorming a good list of possible names before you go to register one.

How to Locate Desirable Domain Names to Flip

Flipping domain names can be very profitable. You can make money by selling the domain name itself or by creating a website using the domain name and selling the name and the developed site as a package. Usually, the completed, developed website will sell for more money.

In order to generate the highest returns, one of the most critical factors is finding a domain name that is desirable -- one that is in demand or is attractive to the marketplace.

I am shocked when someone contacts me with a domain name that contains keywords that are not being advertised for by Google ad words advertisers (worse yet, are those domain names that contain no keywords at all). Yes, it's true, that some "brandable" domain names can bring in attractive returns. Yet, you'll stack the odds in your favor if you take the following steps:

1. Identify a hot trend. You can do this using tools at a number of search engines.

2. Locate keywords used in that trend. If the trend for example is "online income" you would do a keyword search looking for search terms and keywords that contain the words "online income."

3. Check your keywords for AdSense ads. Once you've located some attractive keyword-based domain names, plug those keyword terms into Google and determine if there are ad words advertisers bidding for those search terms. The more the advertisers, the higher the likelihood your domain name or developed website will be in demand. More demand means more profit to you.

By using some common sense in your domain name search you'll stack the odds in your favor in finding attractive domain names to flip for a profit.

Three Keys to Becoming a Successful Domain Name and Website Flipper

First, let's discuss the term "flipping" and what it means in the context of flipping domain names or websites. When someone "flips" a domain name or website this simply means that they have purchased the domain name or website at one price and have sold it for a higher price.

They make a profit on the difference between the purchase and sale price. This is very similar to the activities in the real estate market. I'm sure that you've heard about people who flip houses. Well, you can also flip virtual real estate. That's the context in which we are using the term "flip." One of the biggest mistakes made by the beginning domain name or website flipper is the failure to treat their activities as a business. Let's look at that in more detail.

1. Establish a business presence. A successful domain name or website flipper needs to have a central site that is used for credibility and identity. One of the problems with conducting an online business is that your customer never gets to meet you in person. Your only chance to let them know who you are is through a website. Your goal is to make your customer feel comfortable doing business with you.

2. Collect e-mail addresses. The second mistake most flippers make is the failure to build a list of leads, prospects and customers. If you're producing a good product or offering high-quality domain names your customers want to know about your latest offerings. Make it easy for them (and yourself) to make contact. You need to have an opt-in form on your website to collect e-mail addresses.

3. Systemize your system. Look for the tasks that become repetitive and set up a checklist or system to make it easy to process activities that are not profitable. Now, I have changed my theory on this quite a bit. I have now discovered with some testing that using a completely unique URL does far more for your business then keyword stacking. I call it keyword stacking, who knows what you call it. By unique URL I mean a name that you come up with that has little or no exposure on google at all. When you use keywords in your URL you throw yourself into an ocean of other URL's with similar structure. You don't want to do this. Also, it is very hard to build a brand on a URL that looks like a couple keywords thrown together. Now, keep in mind, I am referring to choosing a domain name when you plan on building a business that you are going to keep and pursue, and that is going to stick around. If you are building mini sites or landing pages then I would stick with the keywords for your URL. But, if you want to peak Google and Yahoo's interest very quickly then come up with something so unique that when you type the word itself into the Google search bar without the dot com after it, only 3 pages come up for the word itself. I have tried this, and believe me, it works. I split tested this with keyword URL's and the results are pretty interesting.

Let me get your gears turning for a minute so you can see where I am coming from. Some of the most successful websites have domain names such as: Google, Yahoo, Zazzle, itunes, twitter, ebay and so forth. You get the point. Very simple names, easy to remember, and the word itself had little existence until these websites came along. I'm talking about building a brand though. Your domain name isn't going to do you much good if you don't back it up with some hard work. For building mini sites or landers, using keywords in your URL is still an acceptable method. But if you plan on building a brand and a business, then you may want to consider using a very unique domain name that you can build a business on.

Can You Really Earn Through Domain Parking?

I was browsing through the internet and found a success story of a Filipino earning large amounts of money through domain parking. And I was intrigued enough to actually research a little bit of this "Domain Parking".

Well, most or some of you might ask what does domain parking mean?. Here is a description of domain parking by sedo.com:

Domain Parking is a simple way to earn money from your domains' natural traffic. If you have registered domain names, but they are not currently being used, then domain parking is a great way to put those domains to work, earning you revenue. You can make money without even lifting a finger! The idle domain is used to display relevant advertisements -every time a consumer clicks on one of the advertisements, you earn money.

So yeah. Parked domains are domains that are usually not being used for websites, blogs, forums, etc. Domains that are being parked are usually not being used by the owner. By parking your unused domains, you can actually gain some income through the advertisements found in it rather than leave that domain unused and useless. But, there those who actually are making the most of this domain parking.

Domain parking is like real estate, domain names are like land properties bought for investments and in time those domains through traffic will increase in value where you could sell it or just leave it parked and earn from the traffic it generates through advertisements. But like land properties, in which you would have to pick the best location in which you think the value would increase the most, you also have to pick the best available domain name to park. Good examples domains that might attract traffic are loans.com, or car.com. Just imagine how many people would search through Google looking for cars and loans. How many of these people would simply type the word "loan" or "car" in the search bar? For sure if you own the domains loans.com and car.com, your domains would be listed up high in Google's search results.

Through websites that offers domain parking and gives you commissions for every click or purchase a visitor of your domain might do, and you get commissions out of it. Yes it works similar to Google AdSense. If you have a good domain name, you might want to give this a try. Unlike running a website or a blog, you don't actually have to update anything. Just let the course of nature happen and you earn money out of it. The only thing you have to do is check your earnings every now and then. Now, isn't that great? Only having to check you earnings? 10 minutes a day would do! Unlike having a website in which you have to spend hours updating your site so it wont get out of date.

How to Choose a Domain Name

So you want to know what to look for when Choosing a Domain Name? Well there are many many factors that play a roll in choosing a domain name. The first thing you should look at is why you need or want a domain name. Business? Sell? Flip? Develop a website? These are just some of the things that a domain name can be used for.

Although knowing what you want a domain name for is a huge factor in choosing a domain name, there are some basic things you should look for.

Keywords: When choosing a domain name keywords are probably the most important thing. This will help you in the long run with SEO(Search Engine Optimization) and how the domain is advertised. Most common way to know if your keywords will work is called the radio test. This means that if the domain was said over the radio or on the phone ect would people know what to type in the browser?

Search Results: Search result are important when choosing a domain name because they will show you your competition for those specific keywords. Although not at the top of the list, it does help to know what type of sites are using the keywords in your domain name. Indicator of type-in traffic.

Wordtracker: Wordtracker is a tool that tells you how many times a keyword or group of keywords is searched for per day. When choosing a domain name this can be helpful to know and help you sell a domain in the future. It is almost like telling a person that a car can go from 0-60mph in under 5 seconds. This also shows potential for SEO(Search Engine Optimization). Indicator of type-in traffic.

Ad Competition/Bids: This shows you how many advertisers or competitors are bidding for that keyword to advertise on such sites as google or yahoo. This is also a selling point if you were looking to sell a domain name. It is also an indicator if there is type-in traffic.

Make Fast Money Legally by Being a Domain Picker

There are many ways to make fast money legally. People are constantly registering dumb domain names. It amazes me that 90% of webmasters have no clue what they are doing when they pick out there domain names. What's more important; a .com that is brand-able or another extension that is keyword rich? The answer is, it really depends on the situation.

Everybody know that .com rules the world, and many search engines cater to sites that are using the .com extension.

Rule #1: Get a .com if at all possible, but not if it compromises Rule #2.

Rule #2: Research your topic and try to find the most relevant keywords that have the highest search volume and then search for a domain name that exactly fits the keyword your looking for. Most of the time you will not be able to find a .com and may have to settle for another extension. Preferably a .net, .org or .ws . .Info are okay when nothing else is available.

The reason why rule #2 is so important is because it will be much harder promoting a .com that does not have keywords in the domain name. By having a domain name with your keywords you will already have an edge on the competition. Your site will rise faster in the search engines.

Rule #3 Sometimes your keyword will not be available at all. Rule of thumb is to place your keywords a close to the beginning of the domain name as possible and use the least amount of characters as possible, or target a different keyword.

Rule #4 Now that you have found the perfect domain name, make sure you perform some sort of search engine optimization (seo) on your website. This means write quality unique content and use either a seo service or a free seo program such as WebCEO, which can be found by doing a search for it. SEO is very important and should never be ignored or skipped.

Rule #5 There is nothing wrong with using a brand for a domain name, just realize it will be harder for you to scale up to page one of the search results. Link building is the key either way. Do not let your site sit very long with no new link building efforts. Be consistent and you will be rewarded. Also don't acquire fifty links in one day. Spread out you link building efforts to make it appear more natural.

Acquire text links, image links, comment on blogs, submit to directories, write a article like this one to get you link out there or use some social networks and submit your website. A good tip is to try to arrange links on the high ranking sites that are relevant and appear under the search results you are trying to target. Bid Directories are better than free directories, even though you may have to pay a little to get listed.

Domain Name Speculation

Domain name speculation is the activity of purchasing expired or running domain names with the sole intention of retaining them, until a suitable time when speculators can sell them at exorbitantly higher market prices.

Expired domain speculation is becoming more popular and famous because of its because of the possibility of high returns. It is risky and uncertain nature, but people still wish to pursue the activity with all interest.

Expired domain speculation is similar to speculating in stock market and general commodities. In expired domain market, people are likely to speculate on almost all expired domains. Domain name speculation works well only in the short term run mostly, and excessive speculation could lead to negative and counter-productive consequences. Many a times expired domain traders do overestimate and exaggerate the real value of domains based on their appraisal or evaluation reports.

There was a time when it was risk free to invest in domain name speculation (the .com period), but like every thing that has a beginning, it had an end. But recently it's picking up. And you can partake in it. At times, a number of entrepreneurs made huge amount of money by correctly speculating on domain names, both expired and non-expired. Domain name speculation is absolutely legal and you can safely carry out this type of business activity without any legal entanglements.

On the other hand, domain squatting is an unethical and unfair form of business, where a cyber squatter illegal sells registered domain names. This is a type of business that is highly discouraged and may get you into trouble.

5 Reasons Why You Might Get Addicted to Buying Domain Names

Don't get addicted to buying domain names. I am addicted to it. Here's why buying domain names can be addicting.

1) High perceived value. It only costs $8 to buy a DotCom domain name. Wow $8 for a potential million dollar a year website? Awesome I'll have 20.

Often times you get so wrapped up in an idea for a website in your mind that you lose signs of reality. You think that the business idea is so good that you better lock the domain right now.

2) Sense of Urgency, what if someone else takes it? A domain is meant to be unique. That means only one person can have a particular domain name at a certain time.

That means that if someone takes your domain name that you've been eyeing for months, you are screwed. This with the fact that it only cost $8 for a domain, makes you think it's better to lock this domain name right now.

3) Plurals and misspellings. Man, if you get Booking.com you need to get Bookings.com too right? What if someone takes Bookings.com ? Half your potential traffic would go to them.

For any given domain, you can come up with many plurals and misspellings. For example Google.com. You can imagine people typing in gogle.com, or gooogle.com or googles.com, so Google should grab them all right? Wait I think they did...

The potential for misspellings and plural domain names, along with it's inexpensiveness makes you want to grab those as well.

4) .Net, .Org, .Info... man... if my site is Booking.com, shouldn't I grab Booking.net as well? What if a competitor of mine grab Booking.net?

Like the plurals and misspellings. You will often get paranoid about other people grabbing .org, .net, .info, .us version for your domain. You often feel that since it's so cheap, you should get those as well.

5) Keyword research can find you good domains. If you know about keyword researching, you know that it could give you ideas for phrases you haven't even thought of. Now for SEO you could by up those domain names and achieve better ranking.

How to Fine Tune Your Domain Trading Business to Earn More Money

Most of us buy a good expired domain at a hefty asking price and add that domain to our ever growing inventory of domains. But, we also forget to work on them immediately to make them commercially viable and profit making. Failure to turn your collection of expired domains into commercial entities will lead to a certain financial disaster. Smart expired domain entrepreneurs make it a point to subject their expired domains to all sorts of monetizing treatments, so that they can recover their investment within the shortest possible time. Once you purchase your domain and register it with a registrar, you may wish to start working on it immediately.

The most common method to monetize your domain is to follow these simple steps:

a) Create a min site of a page or two and add relevant content to the pages. Once this site is up and running, you can subscribe the portal to a lucrative program like AdSense. AdSense is a famous web site monetization program.

b) Another intelligent thing to here is to attract web site visitors to clock on some sponsored advertising banner in the form of an AdSense box.

Tips: Ensure that you are using latest and advanced SEO techniques while inserting content.

Note: You may also need to check the accumulated traffic in your site. If you perceive that the traffic generated is disappointing, then you may need to change the content to make it more suitable for the advertising.

Caution: Whatever you do, just ensure that you are recovering the cost of maintaining your expired domains like annual registration charges.

When you host an AdSense campaign, you have to make sure that the expired domains make enough money. You may wish to set a definite goal for each of your expired domains. As a starter, you can set a goal of around $10 everyday for each of your expired domains. Now, you will need to work towards making your goals a big success.

Here is a simple income generation scenario:

Let us say that you have 10 expired domain based AdSense web sites. Your main goal is to earn about $10 per site every month. If you compute the monthly income, the anticipated value is 10 x $10= $100 per month or $1200 per month.

Building traffic to your AdSense web sites: Targeted content composed with relevant keywords is known to bring more number of visitors. The content that you insert must ensure the following two objectives:

1) What people are looking for right now
2) What are the most suitable keywords that an advertisers is likely to pay

Advertisers also look for those keywords that are in stiff competition among themselves; these keywords will get instant attention, as they are more likely to generate increased income. Keyword selection demand considerable amount of work and the most sensitive details include:

Top bid price suggested by competitors
Traffic generated during a given period of time
Average traffic generated during the time
Perceived advertiser's competition suggested.

Profitable keyword selection seems to be the ultimate success mantra to your expired domain trading business. Research efforts focused towards finding the best possible expired domains should be your top priority.

Register a Web Domain Name Hosting That is Right For You

You have been thinking about starting your first website but you have no ideal what your domain name should be. All these ideas keep popping up in your head but you just can't settle on the right web domain name. Well, just what is the best name for your website any way? Register domain names that are either memorable or keyword friendly. Don't start hosting domains until you see the difference.

Take a look at the name Google or Yahoo for example. A simple one word name domain that gets millions of visitors a day. Why, because not only do they have good service but their domain name is easy to remember. That is why when people do searches on the web they use their sites the most. Hosting a catchy wed domain can stick in a customers head and when they are ready to do business they are more likely to go back to your site. So you can register a domain that is a little off beat and bound to become viral.

Now some people say, despite the success of a memorable domain name, you should use a keyword or keyword phrase that gets plenty of searches targeted to your website content. If your website is about cars then register a domain name like (customcars.com) or (nicecars.com) or any type of variation that a person would type in to a search engine. Do a simple keyword search with Google keyword tool to see what others look for. Then you register a domain that fits your website. Hopefully, when someone types in that phrase your website will show up first. It does not always work because you still need to do some SEO to get your site listed high but you will have a better shot with that particular keyword phrase.

Hosting a web domain, which ever way you choose, is still a tricky thing. Some people may have already beat you to the name you want so you will have to be creative to register a domain name that you really want. If you found that your name is already taken in (.com) form then try it in (.net) or (.org) form. You might just get lucky and get it with one of these options. If you have your heart set on that name then add the number 1, or 2, after the word like (www.example1.com). That way you still can you that keyword and your domain name. Sometimes you can put a dash in between two keyword phrase domains like (www.your-site.com) to register domain names that are hard to get. Play around with it until you find one that is not in use.

I hope this can help you register the proper domain name when you sigh up for web hosting. The wrong domain name can hurt you if you are not careful. Pick a name and stick with it. It will take sometime but your domain name can begin to catch on over time.

Residual Income - Domains Payday

Introduction
If you are an IT specialist and are thinking of what kind of business to start, then try domain names services. You can either elect to register a domain name based on

1- a new or existing brand name e.g. business name, trademark, product brand name or

2- one or more keywords that you perceive will help your target market to find you.
Both methods have their pro's and con's.

(For this article, to avoid filter penalties, my domain name examples will start with a Capital letter and end with /.)

Domain name based on BRAND

The web is populated with unusual and recognised domain names e.g. Google/, Amazon/ and Yahoo/. Naming your domain using a new or existing brand name can be a powerful and rewarding long-term strategy. Developing a brand name from anonymity to stardom is any marketer's goal.

Pro's

A branded domain name may

- Attract attention for its originality and for being catchy e.g. Yahoo/ or Dogpile/.

- Stand out from competition e.g. compare Google/ with Searchengine/, Searchengines/ and Bestsearchengine/. Which one stands out? Sorry, no price for this easy answer.

- Facilitate direct search. Repeat visitors can guess your name and type it in the address bar or location field and find you directly, bypassing competitors.

- Encourage brand recognition. Each time people are exposed to your domain name, it reinforces your brand.

- Increase credibility and loyalty. In general, people prefer to be associated with a brand name rather than a generic name. If price is not a consideration, wouldn't you prefer buying Chanel branded sunglasses from Chanel/, Eyesave/ or Sunglassesportal/?

- Promote viral marketing. It is easier to refer someone to a domain name that you can remember and spell without difficulty.

- Provide flexibility. Your domain name can be used on business cards and offline promotions.

- Protect your intellectual property. Get in first before someone names their domain with your product brand, business name or title of your book.

Con's (for new brands only)

A domain name using an established brand name may not encounter the problems below. A domain name based on a new brand may:

- Be difficult to choose. Selecting a name to convey instantly business core values and benefits of website is a very difficult task.

- Need time, money and effort to break through the online noise and be recognised.

- Necessitate a strong unique selling proposition.

- Require an arsenal of internet marketing tactics e.g. linkage strategies and search engine optimisation to improve the search engine ranking.

Domain name based on KEYWORDS

Keywords are the words that web users enter in the search box of the search engine to retrieve information on a specific subject.

The current trend is for web searchers to enter a string of keywords or keyword phrase rather than single keywords e.g. a person may look for 'free family tree', 'decision tree software', 'artificial Christmas tree' instead of 'tree. This practice provides less search engine results but of better quality. Similarly, website owners are creating generic domain names made of a string of keywords to reach their target audience e.g. Paylesscarrental/, Collectorcartraderonline/ and Carbuyingtips/.

Pro's

On one hand, generic keywords domain names may:

- Generate instant results with drive-in traffic from search engines.

- Attract qualified prospects looking for your keywords.

- Communicate and position instantly your site's benefits and core values e.g. Justfreestuff/, Best-home-mortagage-loan/, Indoorgardensupplies/.

- Improve search engine ranking. (The use of keywords in the domain name is a strategy which you cannot rely on to increase your search engine ranking: it is only a very small part of search engine optimisation.)

Con's

On the other hand, generic keywords domain names may:

- Be perceived as boring, lacking in imagination and sometimes dubious.

- Require more effort to remember. This could lead to domain names being misspelled e.g. Barnesandnoble/ or Barneandnobles/ or placed in the wrong sequence e.g. Homefinancialservices/ or Financialhomeservices/. These common mistakes have prompted shrewd business people to piggy back on popular websites e.g. Ezinearticle/ benefits from spelling mistakes of customers from Ezinearticles/.

- Restrict the usage of the domain name. A long string of keywords does not look good on offline promotional material.

- Be wasted if you don't choose your keywords carefully. It is important to research the words used by your customers and not rely on your assumptions. Jeff, a Printer, had optimised his site for 'self-publishing' only to find that self-publishers were searching for printers using keyword 'printing'.

The best of both worlds: consider complementary domain name strategies:

1. Create a short, easy to remember brand name using keywords e.g. Diabeticgourmet/, Netdoctor/ or Houseweb/.

2. Purchase a few domain names made up of keywords and have them pointing to a main branded domain name. This strategy requires you to buy an URL forwarding option when you purchase your domain name. A word of caution: if you overuse this tactic, Google may respond negatively to these 'sneaky redirects'.

Henriette Martel is a website strategist, author of 200 Marketing Ideas for Your Website and director of the Australian Training Guide Australia's A to Z Training Database and Resources for Speakers, Trainers & Coaches.

How to Transfer a Domain Name

A domain name transfer refers to a change of ownership of a domain name. Some of the reasons to transfer a domain are:

1. You have just sold or purchased that domain.
2. You are dissatisfied with your current registrar.
3. You need to renew a domain.

Sometimes it is cheaper to renew a domain name by paying for a transfer, then by paying the renewal fee. For example, GoDaddy domain transfers cost around $7 and include a 1 year domain
renewal. If your domain is registered with Moniker where renewals cost $10, it is cheaper to transfer to Godaddy and get the inclusive 1 year extension. You will save $3. A $3 saving per domain renewal equates to a lot of cash, especially if you own hundreds of domains.

It is important to keep in mind that registrars do not allow the transfer of domains to another registrar within a set period of time following the registration of a brand new domain name. For example Godaddy allows transfer away of a domain 60 days after an initial registration. Transferring a domain from one account to another account within the same registrar can be done at any time.

Some registrars enforce an external transfer lock on a domain for a set time period if you make any alterations to contact information. Again, up until recently Godaddy placed a 60 day transfer lock if any changes were made on contact info on a domain. This was a security feature which was implemented to help prevent domain theft.

There are two types of domain name transfers.

1. Ownership transfers within the same registrar.

The following steps summarize such a transfer at Godaddy (other registrars follow a similar procedure, check their FAQ for details ):

1. Log-in to your registrar user account.
2. Access your domain list.
3. Access the change account details / transfer domain feature (different depending on registrar).
4. Enter new owner account details, including the email / username of the new owner.
5. Complete the transfer request.

At this point, your registrar sends an email notifying both parties of the transfer initiation. The email sent to the new owner usually contains a set of security keys combined with other information related to the domain transfer.

To complete the transfer the new owner follows the steps outlined in the email sent by the registrar.

At Godaddy these steps can be summarized as follows (other registrars follow a similar set of steps, check their FAQ for details):

1. New owner logs into their registrar account.
2. New owner accesses their account pending changes screen.
3. New owner enters the domain security codes as provided in the email they received from the registrar.
4. New owner completes the transfer process.

2. Transferring a domain from one registrar to another.

This type of transfer can be summarized by the following steps:
1. Owner of domain name removes registrar lock placed against the domain name. This is done by using the "Remove lock" feature of your account's domain administration interface. Note: A registrar lock is placed by the owner of a domain name in order to prevent any attempts of transferring that domain name.
2. New owner logs into their account at their registrar.
3. New owner accesses the transfer domain screen and initiates transfer of said domain.
4. Their registrar informs the present domain owner (email retrieved via WhoIs information of domain) that a transfer has been initiated.
5. Present owner confirms transfer via their registrar account.
6. Transfer is completed.Note: Transfer may take a few hours to show up in your registrar account.

Most registrars follow a similar pattern as above, but to be sure, check their FAQs or contact them directly.

John Motson runs a domain name forum, domain name blog and has authored the popular domain name book Domaining Manifesto.

Domain Sales Machine Review

If you are looking for a Domain Sales Machine Review, you should read this article entirely to find out about my experience with it. With the lessons I learned from this domain investing course, I have been able to develop a clear vision for my domain investments and I know exactly how to make the most profits out of my domains portfolio.

1. What Types Of Domain Names Have I Learned To Find With The Domain Sales Machine System?

Most of the time, I am able to get my domain names to generate revenue on their own while I wait to make a much bigger profit opportunity through a large lease or sales transaction. There are domain names that will be costing you money (from yearly renewal fees to maintain the registration) while you are waiting to profit from them, and these are the names that you should avoid buying or think of ways to make them sustain themselves while you own them.

As a rule of thumb, always plan how you are going to earn money from your portfolio of domains before going ahead to purchase them.

2. Should You Always Buy .Coms?

There is significantly less risk when you buy .com domain names as compared to other extensions. Also, if you are able to get in early for any popular country code top level domains like .us, you may also have the opportunity to buy greatly profitable domain names.

3. What Kind Of Domain Names Will Become More Profitable In The Future?

It is not easy to predict the future of the domain industry, but Domain Sales Machine has given me a good analysis and helped me see what this industry will look like in the future. Sometimes it is hard or even impossible to leave out the subjective opinion and just stick to the facts and statistics.

However, it is dangerous to approach domain appraisal on "like it/don't like" basis. That's why an exact guide or checklist can provide a great help and make the appraisal process much easier.

Strictly speaking, there are 20 main factors in domain appraisal procedure. You will easily set the right value of your domain if you follow these steps.

1. Industry popularity. It is very important to answer a question "what is the market volume this domain applies to?" It may be a short and nice name but it will have less value if it cannot generate enough business.

2. Niche situation. It is sometimes a matter of fashion. Once you have applied the domain to a certain market, explore how wide or narrow is the niche it would fit in.

3. Keyword popularity. The best method of market prediction and one of the most accurate domain appraisal tools is the keyword popularity check. You have to find out the number of monthly searches for the keyword term your domain represents. Two of the all time favourites are Google Adwords Keyword tool and Yahoo's Overture. If a domain name doesn't contain any recognizable keyword, it should be brandable (see the point #10).

4. Substantiality. It is a domain appraisal criterion that evaluates if the domain name is serious enough to have business people showing any interest. Wacky names may be fun but they doesn't attract enough business.

5. Top level domain value. Yes, .COM maybe is king but how about other TLDs? Top tier extensions are .COM, .NET, .ORG, .CO.UK and .DE. They have a potential of going for over $100,000. Midfield consisting of .NL, .US, .FR, .RU, .IN and .CN hardly ever reaches $100,000 but can go beyond that for the right name.
Lower end of .INFO, .TV, .MOBI, .FM, .AM, .BE and .CC are sometimes seen selling in $XX,000 region whereas the struggle TLDs .BIZ, .WS, country TLDs and .NAME rarely make a thousand. Yet the domain appraisers have to keep in mind that a great .BIZ will definitely make more money than a shabby .COM.

6. Phone test can determine if there is some off-line value in the domain. If you can dictate the name over your phone without spelling it letter by letter, you may add more dollars to the price.

7. Memory test is another method of domain appraisal that determines if it has a business potential. Test your friends - tell them the name and see if they would be able to recall it after a day or two.

8. Length of the name. There is still a strong demand for three-letter and four-letter .COM domains. However, the majority of these aftermarket transactions take place amongst domain name "flippers" or re-sellers. It is not necessary for a name to be short in order to be good seller - a longer name that can still be easily memorized and that makes a perfect sense, will do as good.

9. Product recognition. From the business point of view, it is important that the visitor would be able to predict the content of the web-site once he sees the domain name.
A name containing "telephone", "mobile" or "games" and similar popular products would be likely to fetch more in the aftermarket. Whereas, a domain that resembles a popular branded product may prove a difficult thing to sell.

10. Brandability. In the situation when almost 100% of the English dictionary words are already registered as domain names or branded, if someone comes up with an interesting new word that can be turned into a trademark, domain appraisal has to consider and recognize that. It is essential to check both US and UK trademark registries before setting the sale price.

11. Exact keyword. It may be an advantage to have a single-keyword domain name, also two relevant keywords without a hyphen spells good selling price. However, when it comes to three or more keywords in a single domain especially when they are hyphenated, it will drastically reduce the aftermarket price.

12. Language. Top sellers are the domains in correct English language due to the worldwide audience and all the English-speaking countries. Also Spanish and German names sell quite well.

13. Clean grammar. Typos were popular some time ago. Now it is very important for business reputation to have a grammatically correct domain name.

14. Domain age. As the search engine algorithms deal with site ranking, domain age is quite important. Older domains tend to rank higher.

15. PageRank and domain appraisal. Initially PageRank was introduced by Google to rank web-pages by their importance. As webmasters still continue to fret about PageRank, it is still considered as a factor in domain appraisal.

16. Type-in traffic. If a domain name is short and obvious, it will attract traffic from direct browser type-ins. If you can prove a significant type-in traffic, you can set the selling price on a higher level.

17. Organic traffic. Again, it is necessary to provide a proof that the site receives free organic traffic from search engines and referrals. It is very difficult to build traffic and if the initial work is already done, you will expect the buyer to pay more.

18. Development value. Domain appraisal should also consider how the associated website is developed and optimized. On the other hand, an unprofessional site can harm the sales potential. There is nothing wrong with selling a domain with a web-site as a package deal, yet the quality of the site should be top-notch! The domain appraisal factors 14 to 18 are meant to deal with names that already have a web-site. If you are trying to appraise a blank domain name, you should not consider these points.

19. Total revenue generated from the site. A proof of regular revenue from different advertising and affiliate programs will drive the sale price up, yet a good site content alone will doubtfully make a good sale if the domain doesn't meet at least some of the aforementioned criteria from 1 to 13.

20. Comparison. Before concluding a domain appraisal, you will want to compare the domain with previous similar sales from the aftermarket. Although it is true that each name is unique, there is fashion and there are trends. That's why it may be useful to visit Sedo, Tdnam or any other aftermarket to see what domains attract more bids, explore the internet for previous sales. A good idea is to sign up for several web-master forums in order to explore the domain appraisal requests posted by members. You will be able to post a domain appraisal request yourself and compare your verdict with judgment of fellow webmasters.

This guide contained the 20 primary criteria of domain appraisal. Use them to determine the value of names you buy and sell. If you keep this guide as your checklist, you will probably find that domaining is an interesting and rewarding industry.

Author is a contributor for the Domain News Blog. An expired domain with a considerable amount of expired traffic is an added bonus to your domain-trading endeavor. Traffic associated with an expired domain could be the lifeline of that domain, and when you use it properly and in a systematic manner, you can reap a rich harvest and hefty profits by selling the domain along with its traffic. Expired domain traffic is a visual indicator for the commercial success of a web site; more the traffic means more business, more visitors and a large number of incoming links.

One of the prominent goals of a webmaster who is holding an expired domain based web site is to enhance and develop meaningful traffic to the web site. Traffic to a web site also means an added value to the site and people looking to buy web portals or expired domains need plenty of traffic and inbound links. If you feel that you have an expired domain with plenty of traffic, then you can try to sell it off to make some handsome profits. Here are some golden tips and suggestions that will help you understand how you can sell your expired domains studded with traffic:

Once you understand the real principles of expired domain traffic and inbound links, it becomes very easy to start a selling process by finding good customers. There are actually two ways of dealing with your domain:

a) Sell the entire set of expired traffic to an interested web master for a decent price. You can even demand very high price for your domain, when the domain in question has plenty of traffic and inbound links. Webmasters always need highly quality links and traffic and not just any ordinary traffic generated out of casual and cross visits.

b) Another costly, but lucrative alternative would be to develop a web site on the expired domain and sell it to the highest bidder. Experienced domain traders make it a habit to flip their domains into a big money-spinner by transforming them to a paying web portal. Though a long drawn flipping process, this is a profitable venture with a decent probability of earning plenty of money.

c) If you have an expired domain that had an active listing on popular search directories lime Yahoo or DMOZ, you can expect to earn a large amount of money. These search engines charge a subscription joining fees, while you may need to pay a hefty amount of almost $199 to list your portal in their engine. These domains can fetch an extraordinary sum because of their premium value.

d) Yet another innovative program is to introduce your expired domain to a highly profitable affiliate or PPC program, earn some money and later show to prospective buyer that it is making some amount of money. Affiliate marketing provides you an opportunity to have a system of blind linking. A number of domain traders use this unique system to add value (in terms of expired traffic) to their domains. Trading multiple expired web domains is still more profitable and lucrative, when you enter into a mutual business partnership with a single PPC search engine. Pooling of your expired domains will help you streamline or guide your business in a profitable way.

Before selling off your domains, you will need to ensure that the type and quality of expired traffic and inbound links. A genuine organic type of expired domain traffic coming to your site is probably the best type of traffic, and a domain with such a type of traffic could provide you unlimited internet riches.

John Khu is an author and also a seasoned professional with vast experience in expired domain name business. However you need to know how to do it. This list will show you how to sell a domain name and make a profit from it.

1. Place a value on a domain name

This is necessary before you can sell it at a profit. When you sell a domain name, you are selling a property and there are ways to go about doing that. Decide on the value of your domain name. How much money did you make out of it? Is the topic it covers a hot topic at the moment?

2. Decide if you are going to sell it yourself or have someone else sell it for you

This is imperative to beginning the selling process for the domain name. The domain name, once valued will become a piece of property that can be worth a lot of money. You can spend the time looking for buyers for your product, or you can hire someone else to work for you on a commission basis.

3. Create an active site for the domain name in question

By setting up an active site, you are much more likely to sell the domain, than if you just simply creating a web page only. Bear in mind this is a good way to sell a domain name. When buyers see a complete site, it is more valuable in their eyes. This move is also likely to fetch you a higher price.

4. Closing the deal on a sale

By closing the deal on this sale, the domain name transfers to someone else and you see a profit. This is one of the best ways to sell this type of domain name. You may use Yahoo every day to search the Web, and fortunately, they've also made domain registration very simple. Yahoo Domains is popular among website owners all over the world because of the Internet giant's reliability and cost effectiveness. Yahoo also offers private registration, which allows you to hide your personal information from spammers and other malicious Web users who mine the domain registration (WHOIS) database for personal information.

When you register a domain name with Yahoo Domains, they also provide services to guide you through the process of building a standard website or an e-commerce site.

For important sites you don't want to leave to chance, Yahoo domain registration includes security measures to help prevent domain hijacking and other forms of abuse. You can also be assured that your private information will not be shared with third parties or individuals wanting to buy your registered domain name.

The domain name you choose is critical. It should be concise, memorable, and represent your business well. Unfortunately, many domain names are already registered by other site owners. In cases like this, Yahoo's domain registration process assists you in selecting an appropriate domain name for your site or business by suggesting available domain names based on slight variations of your initial request.

Even if you are on a limited budget, Yahoo domains are affordable, costing less than $20 per year for all top security and customer service features.

Affordability, security, reliability, and great support make Yahoo domains an excellent choice for small businesses and even non-commercial site owners.

Want to further compare domain registrars or learn more about Yahoo Domains? Most internet users are not great spellers so just avoid words that are difficult to spell. A good rule of thumb is to use high school level vocabulary.

8. Avoid numbers and hyphens. This speaks for itself. We don't visualize in terms of hyphens and unless you have a unique number or a number with some significance, don't include those either.

7. Relevant and unique. An effective domain name could work as a powerful marketing tool. Pick a domain name that describe your venture in some way or is unique and fun.

6. Avoid trademark issues. Do whatever you can to avoid trademark issues. It's better to stay away from variations of existing brand names, including misspellings, abbreviations and trademark names. Also, don't make the mistake of thinking you can avoid trademark hassle with a hyphen.

5. Avoid misunderstandings. The other day I came across a site: whorepresents.com. The site name is actually "Who Represents" and it gives information about celebrity agents, lawyers, managers and publicists. However, when you look at the URL, the two words that pop into your head are "whore" and "presents." Enough said, I suppose.

4. Alternate TLDs. You should avoid registering an alternate TLD like .info or .me, if the .com name is already taken. Avoid doing this especially if the name you want is a brand name, trademark or the name of an existing business.

3. Intentional misspellings. You must not get domain names that are intentionally misspelled, hoping that people will catch on the new spelling. You might have to end up spending millions to educate the public about your special spelling, and even then you will lose a lot of traffic. People won't spell your name right when they type it in their browser.

2. Check domain availability. This goes without saying, but it's important. Once you select a name, don't start making plans around that name until you make sure that it's available. Quite often, your first choice won't be available when you check for it and you'll need to come up with an alternative. Now, this in itself can sometimes be a good thing since it allows you to brainstorm more and often you will come up with a better name.

1. Include keywords. Finally, and most importantly, include keywords in your domain names. This can not only help improve your search engine rankings but also describes the nature of your business to your visitors.

Samreen Soomro is an SEO expert and a search engine marketing strategist based in Karachi, Pakistan. But what does a domain flipper do to make money?
As in many types of business, there are various models or techniques for domain flipping.
Learn how to flip domains and reap the profits.

1. Register a new domain

Registering a new domain name is simple and relatively inexpensive. I wish I had registered "cars" or "trucks" or "computers" or other fundamental product names years ago. I could auction off those names for large sums now. But I suspect every single-word domain name in the dictionary is owned already. Still, people frequently come up with new unique combinations of two and three-word domain names, and you can too. If the name has value to someone, then you can sell it by auction or via a broker. But there is another alternative for new domain names. Who would have thought that "twitter" or "squidoo" would become a popular domain name? If you are creative with names, maybe you can make up the next "digg" or "reddit".

2. Buy expired domain names

Domain names expire every day. And many of the search engines value older websites over new ones. The websites may already have links which the search engines also use in ranking. Finally, the website may also have traffic -- another desirable item in website valuation. So if you pick up an expired domain and find the right buyer, you can pocket the profit.

3. Buy an established website domain name

Many websites can be purchased for a reasonable price. Their owners may tire of running a website, or be dissatisfied with the amount of money they are making. This may be because they lack the time, marketing skills, or web development skills to exploit the website. If you have these skills (or you can hire them at the right price), then you can bump up the revenue and keep the website, or sell it based on its new value due to the increased income.

4. Use parked domains to generate revenue

Maybe you have parked some domains while you work on developing a website (or can also buy parked domains from others). However parked domains may show up in search engine results if the domain names have relevance to the search. Many domain name registrars and other websites provide domain name parking services that will put advertising (e.g. Google adsense) on your parked website's page. The companies will charge you a fee for parking or share in the ad revenue (or both). You do not have go this route. You can take your parked domains and put your own ads on the pages and keep all the money.

Mike Furlong

When I'm not working on the Internet, I'm playing on the Internet! Study the sales data, let the domain sales data tell you what is in demand...whatever you do, do not guess --

Say you have the dream and desire to successfully buy and sell domain names, you have to be a student of the domain name aftermarket. Here are a few websites you should check to see what is selling. One being the sedo.com marketplace. Another site that you have to check is dnjournal.com which is run by Ron Jackson, a fellow domainer. You can find a page where all of the recent sale data is listed. Let this be a guide in your decision-making as to what is in demand.

2. Be sure you learn about dropped names with traffic and expired domain names with Google page rank --

Some domainer's make a business of buying and selling expired names that have existing traffic. A dropped domain name that has traffic is in demand. If you couple an expired domain name with traffic along with Google PR, that is a wonderful combo to have.

Some of you might wonder what an expired domain is. An expired domain is one in which the prior registrant(owner)failed to pay their annual renewal fee. When a prior owner fails to renew a domain, there is a 30 day grace period. After that anyone can get it. The benefit to the domainer is that all of the work the prior owner did is passed on to the new owner. That means everything: the traffic, the back links, the PR are passed to the new owner. And get this -- the existing Google page rank is passed on. Buyers want domain names with page rank and will pay a premium. This makes your domain name more easy to sell.

3. Short is is in demand--

The shorter the length of the domain name the more desirable it is. Domain name purchasers give a good deal of economic value to a short domain name. All you need to do is research out what you would have to invest to buy a two letter.com domain. Even research out the price the three letter.com domains are being bought at. Just go to a domain name aftermarket like moniker.com. If you look at the auctions occurring you'll see 3 letter names -- dot-coms -- going for hundreds if not 1000s of dollars. Four letter domains are likewise in craved by the domain aftermarket crowd.

If we are planning to focus on generic keyword-based domains, keep foremost in mind that the shorter domain is better.

4. ".coms" are the best - they will offer you the highest reward --

With all the new domain names extensions offered today, it's not hard to get confused.

Domain name extensions are the letters after the dot. For example, in the domain name Google.com, the.com is the domain name extension. The three letters that come after the dot. This is also referred to as the "TLD" which stands for top level domain.

To add to the confusion are confusingly new extensions being offered (almost on a regular basis). For example, recently, the .me TLD was offered. We already have .com, .net, .org, .info, .mobi (nice, huh?). It can appear overwhelming.

If you are planning to concentrate on buying and turning domains you have to realize that the.com extension is the most coveted. It has been around the longest. A.com name is associated with constancy and an genuine presence on the Web. Now do not take me wrong -- the other extensions do have plenty of proponents -- and I can see also a want for them. But for the sake of flipping domain names, the.com is the topper.

5. Keep an e-mail list of your buyers and contact them with your best deals --

The money is in the list. I am sure you've heard that. That means your e-mail list of buyers is an asset. If you get involved in the domain name reselling game, your list of buyers are proven to be people who are interested in purchasing good domain names. It is critical that you send your list a listing of your domain names before they are made available to anyone else. Wouldn't it be exciting to have a domain name sold as soon as you send it out to the list?

6. Trademarks = headaches --

One of the quickest ways to get yourself tied up in a legal battle is to buy a domain name that contains the trademark of another company or person. Trademarks are considered to be property rights. The trademark owner has the right to prevent anyone from capitalizing on it. It is very hard to sell a domain name that contains a trademark. On top of that, most parking companies prevent parking trademark domains. This means no parking revenue.

Beware of trademark-based domain names. They could result in tremendous liability.

Phil Craig is an author, lawyer and domainer. Your about to buy a killer domain and you need to do the research into the niche and find cool words to bind with your keyword.

After you jot down a few dozen ideas, take your efforts over to your domain registrar and search to see which ones are available.
You need a "money making" domain so don't have the word 'free" or other restricting words like "downloads" or "recipes" in it.
You buy a domain, it cost you $8.00.

Once the registration goes through, go into your domain hosting and point that sucker's name servers towards your file hosting.

Create a little webpage with adsense ads on it and then submit your URL to bookmarking sites and write some articles with ezinearticles pointing towards your site. (In other words, make your url profitable.)

If you want to make some quick cash, sell it now. This one should go for $50. Go onto ebay or sitepoint.com and sell the domain. Explain why you are selling it, what they get with it and how the income is generated. The income is the reason why this thing is worth something more than the $8.00

If you want the bigger money, don't sell it yet. Keep creating links back to your page, post on forums with your link, create a list with an aweber.com account and make an "advertising page" where people will pay you to advertise for a month. (Start up a separate aweber for that.)

Get the income up. Keep an eye out where it is on the search engines and try to get it higher in the search engines. The idea is to get into niches where you can get to the top10 of google, that's when your adsense account will start making a couple hundred a week and you can sell the domain for 2 years of projected earnings.

Don't bother with high traffic, high competition niches, unless you buy the domain, and it has to be a one word domain like pizza.com to be worth something.

You can also buy domains that people need for their business. For instance, if you bought pizza.com and then contact a pizza company, they will probably be interested in talking to you, see what I mean?

There are a lot of different ways to go about it but these two ways are the types of domain sales I do. Either the "build up the income" way or the "Buy someone's niche domain" and contact them. Build a website that sells these digital products on it, give it a great domain and then sell it for thousands a month later.

Finding Good Expired Domain Names by Using Google Search Engine

Many newbie expired domain traders find it very hard to find an expired domain name of their choice. Due to their inexperience as well as lack of knowledge or skills in expired domain trading, they always end up in buying expired domains with relatively no commercial value. If you are interested in finding a good expired domain name, then you may wish to learn some basic secrets and tips related to the expired domain name trading business. Google is a well-known search engine that provides very good search results in matter of few seconds. Google is also a rich repository of web domains, both live and expired; if you know how to use this amazing utility, you can easily find a good and commercially available expired domain, capable of spinning more money than you wished for.

With the right type of knowledge, it should not be too difficult for you to find and detect very good expired domain names by using Google search engine. All you have to do is to use right type of keywords and search methods to create a list of expired domain names! Google houses more than 50 millions of web domains and most of these domains are alive, while a considerable numbers are dead and expired. If you know how Google spiders work in segregating the search results, you can easily cull out excellent expired domain names as well.

Most of the major search engines including Yahoo, Live, Google, Ask and host of others employ a method that seeks to weed out or eradicate those domains that are no longer alive, or those that are already expired and dead. However, hundreds of thousands of web domains expire everyday and these numbers seem to be too huge for any search engines to remove from the list. Thus, there is always a time lag of a week or so, before the expired domain names are removed from the directories.

However, there is still a gap of about five to six days before the entire list of expired domains disappear from the directory listings. Smart expired domain traders make it a point to buy expired domains, before they are deleted or removed from the search engine list. Once you buy listed expired domains and register them as soon as possible, you can have the liberty of accumulating very precious traffic and links owned and possessed by the previous owner.

However, you can conduct a search on the Google search engine by using a simple search query given as follows:

a) Just open the Google search engine bar
b) Type- "Auction Date" 01-07-2008 intitle: aaaaaaaaa site: whois.domaintools dotcom (here, aaaaa is the preferred keyword, while the date could be any date that you wish but it should preferably be about 15 days before today's date.
c) Choose any keyword you want and consult a keyword tracker web domain for better keywords.
d) Once you give a command for search, you can easily get a comprehensive list of expiring or expired domain names in the entire search engine directory.

Once you create list, you can sensitize it by using good domain software for short listing the best possible domain names. The list thus generated should provide you a basic idea of how your expired domain names look and appear.

John Khu is an author and also a seasoned professional with vast experience in expired domain name business. So if your website is based on Quilting, and you offer some tips about quilting on your website, you could think about a domain name like *pro-quilting-tips.net* or something similar. By the way, I don't know if that domain even already exists ;)

That way, if people do a search for "quilting tips" in Google, your website is more likely to come up, because it almost exactly matches what the person is searching for! Of course, do not substitute this for good Search Engine Optimization.

Another spin on this (and if you have a small amount of money to spare), is to register a bunch of domains, using "long tail keywords". These are key phrases which people may rarely search for, but it almost guarantees that you'll get their click. Here's an example: *how-to-make-your-own-dog-food.com*

Also, when you're picking a domain name, it needs to be catchy, it needs to "roll off the tongue". And it also needs to be easy to spell! There's no use having a great website if some people can't spell the name!

Also, you should really try to steer away from .info domain names, if you want to look credible. These domains have been notorious for hackers who would like to place spyware on your pc, and if you choose one of these domains, you risk people being too scared to visit your website.

I hope this helps you pick the right domain!

Mark Archer is a seasoned internet marketing guru. Choose a keyword rich domain name. Such as europemaps.com or exoticcheeses.com to reflect your products or service
2. Buy an existing / expired domain name. Google ranks old domains higher so look for domains that are at least 1 year old. Use Checkpageranking.com to check the domain - including checking for a forged page rank.

3. Choose a TLD (top level domain name) - examples: .com or .net or .org or .info Alternatively, the country specific TLD is also good - so for United Kingdom: .co.uk

4. Check to see if all the TLDs are available for purchase. Use a service such as godaddy.com The extra cost will prevent issues further down the road.

5. Purchase the main Domain name for 10 years - Google ranks higher domains which are purchased for extended periods!

6. Short and memorable is better for return visitors: easier to remember.

7. Choose a domain name ideally with no hyphens - so chateauxproperty.com is better than chateaux-property.com. If there is no suitable alternative, choose a domain name with NO more than one hyphen. It will look spammy and there is evidence that Google is penalising NEW sites with lots of hyphens.

8. Do not choose an existing Brand / Trademarked name - you will not win!

9. You can only use letters, numbers and hyphens. No spaces! We think numbers are spammy - so 1product.com or product1.com are not good choices.

10. Use one registrar for purchasing / parking your domain names. It is much easier when you have to update contact information, re-new domains, etc. Use a trusted provider such as godaddy.com or 123-reg.com. Keep your contact information up to date on the Registrar site especially the contact email address. Who wants to lose a valuable domain because you never received the renewal information?

Howard Farmer
SeoAdviser.info
The Seo Adviser Guru
The SeoAdviser.info site is full of SEO tips to help you market your website to the max.
